The final countdown

So, it’s Monday 14th May and we’re on the final countdown to Ramadan 2018. I have told “my boys” at school that I’m fasting again this year and had mentioned to some that I was going to have takeaway pizza for my final non Ramadan meal. One of them said to me this morning “I think you’d better get your pizza tonight Miss” I asked him why and he said because he’d heard it was starting tomorrow. I then asked a boy in another class and he said not until Wednesday or Thursday.
So I know the start of Ramadan is based on the sighting of the moon, although as a scientist I still don’t get how they can’t predict this more accurately, anyway I messaged a couple of friends and they are going to get in touch when it’s confirmed but it’s definitely not tomorrow, so I’ll probably have my pizza tomorrow night, even if it ends up being Thursday it won’t matter!
To make things more difficult for myself I have decided to try being a vegan as well this year, I actually figure it will be easier as I will have less meals to have to figure out what to eat. I can’t eat milk or eggs anyway and I don’t eat red meat, but will have to find a suitable alternative to chicken and fish.

Anyway, I hope everyone else is preparing and looking forward to this year, my main aim is not to eat too much when the sun goes down and to have less than the 4 days off that I did last year.

Good luck everyone.
Eid Mubarak
