29th April - Preparation

Sunday 29th April - 7:48pm

So Ramadan is about 2 weeks away (depending on the moon) and I'm already trying to prepare.
Until last week I was undecided whether I was going to #shareramadan again this year but Amjad(@ASTsupportAAli) started blogging about in preparation and mentioned me and I thought that I will do it again, I think sharing the message is a good thing, and making other people aware of the beliefs of others - and how its not all that you read in the news! Also I had so much support last year from the boys at my school and people I don't know who read my blog and messaged me on Twitter, I feel I have made some, albeit distant, friends that I can message when I need a friend.

So my preparation so far.
  • I have re-downloaded the "my mosque" app and told it I live in Hull so I can get the "official" times for sunrise and sunset
  • I have told Amjad I will be fasting again and am trying to arrange a time when we can break fast together, as we didn't manage last year
  • I have started thinking about what I am going to eat - for the first 2 weeks of Ramadan last year I was eating too much and making myself feel ill and then finding it difficult to go back to sleep after Suhoor.
  • I have been thinking about doing less exercise, at the moment I get up at 6 to do a DVD workout and I do some form of exercise after work, this week (if the weather stays reasonable) I am going to start running again, I ran last year during Ramadan, it was a good way to distract me in the last few hours before Iftar and if I went late enough I was able to have a drink when I got back in
So my meal plans;
When I can break fast at Iftar the first thing I am going to do is drink a whole pint of water and then I'm going to have something I have cooked in advance and can reheat - I'm thinking ratatouille with either rice or pasta, or a jacket potato. I need something that doesn't take too long to make and yet is healthy
At Suhoor I am going to stick with the overnight oats, they seemed to work for me once I got into last time and the added benefit is that I can leave them next to my bed when I go to sleep and wake up and not have to go down to the kitchen to eat - that should make it easier to get back to sleep after eating. I've also been using the "calm" app recently to help me fall to sleep so once I have eaten I will put on a sleep story - hopefully that will help me get as much sleep as possible as I found that I was tired last year.

I guess that's it for now, not sure how much I'll blog this time, its not a new thing for me but it was a nice way to share it all and get my thoughts and feelings out.

I hope more people choose to #shareramadan with Amjad this year and spread the knowledge of the Muslim faith and this act.
